UCoat It® Floor Coating Helps Make AACA Museum Annex Shine

UCoat It Medium Gray with UGloss-AF

HERSHEY, Pa., (March 13, 2009) – When the new 70,000-square-foot Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum opened here in 2003, everyone thought there was plenty of display space for the 100 plus cars in the collection. And there was – until members began donating their pride and joys to the Museum. With limited space in the main building, additional space was needed where the overflow could be properly displayed.

In 2008, a new 11,000-square-foot annex was completed, nicknamed "Jim's Place" after the partly anonymous donor who made the building possible.

"We wanted a facility where we wouldn’t be embarrassed to show cars that weren’t on the main floor," said Museum Curator Jeff Bliemeister. "That meant it had to look as nice as the cars. That's why we chose UCoat It for the floor coating."

In the AACA annex, a medium gray UCoat® basecoat was finished with a UGloss-AF® high-gloss topcoat, producing a highly reflective shine. Bliemeister went on to note the ease of application of the UCoat It floor coating. Museum employees performed the coating application using the provided instructions.

"We wanted a floor finish that not only would look fantastic, but also take the wear and tear of automotive applications," said Bliemeister. "That’s why we chose UCoat It. It’s proven that it can withstand years of abuse from automotive chemicals and equipment. Plus, it has a finish that really enhances the cars on display."

The AACA Museum at Hershey, a member of the Smithsonian Institute Affiliations Program, displays beautifully restored automobiles, buses and motorcycles in unique scenes and settings. This museum is one of the nation’s newest and largest automotive museums with more than 70,000 square feet of exhibit space and the ability to display about 100 vehicles on three levels. Visitors are transported through eight decades in time from the early 1900s through the 1970s while traveling cross-country from New York to San Francisco, making each visit a visual adventure for all ages.
